Today concluded the conference portion of the 2010 Gothic Summit. This year was a glowing success with exceptional speakers presenting cutting edge architectural research. Besides the papers, the summit granted those attending several unique opportunities, including viewing an extensive collection of drawings held in the Maltwood Collection by the 19-century architect R.R. Bayne, which was followed by a lovely wine and cheese at the Maltwood Gallery of UVic.
In addition to this attendees were afforded the rare privilege of touring Christ Church Cathedral, Victoria. During this tour we were allowed to explore above the 100-foot high stone and brick vaulted ceiling and unexpectedly were lead out onto the roof where we could examine the flying buttresses up close. This unique experience made the Summit a truly special event.
